NYLSTAR INCREASES
COMPETITIVENESS BY RESTRUCTURING WESTERN EUROPEAN PLANTS
In the present crisis of
textile industry in
In its profitability recovery
plan, Nylstar has successfully completed the investment plan started in 1999
with expansion into
In Western Europe, and in
particular in the plants with high manufacturing costs and old technologies,
Nylstar is presently pursuing the production restructuring with the closure of the spinning plant in Freiburg (Germany) and the two-step
technology plant in Pisticci (Italy), while investing in continuous updating
program of the remaining plants. The restructuring plan involves about 15 % of
the total Nylstar workforce.
Nylstar will be able to fully
accomplish its
role of leader in the nylon textile yarn market with higher competitiveness and
with a stronger commitment in enhancing its mission of driver of innovation in
the textile business.
In fact Nylstar will continue
to offer its
customers the present product portfolio at the best quality level and will go on investing in Research &
Development in order to face the continuous challenges of the market.
In particular:

Nylstar
will continue to launch new specialities with the brands MerylŇ and ElitéŇ: they will allow its partners in the textile chain to
differentiate their offer to the final market with unique performances and a
strong brand support.

Nylstar
will co-operate very actively with its partners all cross the board in order to
assist them in developing new markets with
innovative textile solutions, e.g. with the program Meryl
Actisystem for sports- and activewear

Nylstar
will continue to invest in young designers, providing new ideas about materials to the drivers of creativity and innovation ,
through the Meryl Innovation Awards, which will take
place in Spring 2004 and will involve more than 100 Fashion and Design Schools
round the world.
